Sending Machine. A digital foodbank.
Publicis.Sapient partnered with First Love Foundation to introduce an innovative digital vending machine. Unlike conventional vending machines that simply dispense food, this one redirects it to those who need it most. First Love Foundation, a charity based in London's Tower Hamlets—a borough facing significant deprivation—is facing a growing demand for its food bank services.
The Sending Machine revolutionizes the way food bank inventory is managed. Updated in real-time, it showcases images of items urgently required and employs contactless payment technology for convenient purchases by passersby. By synchronizing product availability with food bank distribution schedules, donations are dispatched precisely when needed. This approach not only ensures a consistent supply of non-perishable items but also facilitates the provision of fresh food donations.
Our work has been finalist at SXSW 2020 and shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2019 in the categories Digital Craft and Outdoor Lions. The project also won an Andy Awards and a gold at the Kinsale Shark Festival.
