Sending Machine. A digital foodbank.
A partnership between Publicis.Sapient and First Love Foundation to create a digital vending machine that doesn’t dispense food, but instead sends it to those that need it most. First Love is a London-based charity located in the borough of Tower Hamlets, the most deprived borough in the UK and its foodbank has come under increasing strain to keep up with demand and process donations.
The Sending Machine changes the way through which food bank stock data is collected and analysed. Updated in real time, it displays images of products needed in that moment and uses contactless payment technology for easy purchasing from those passing by. Syncing the products with food bank distribution schedules, donations can then be distributed when needed, making fresh food donations possible as well as the typical long-life products.
Our work has been finalist at SXSW 2020 and shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2019 in the categories Digital Craft and Outdoor Lions. The project also won an Andy Awards and a gold at the Kinsale Shark Festival.
